We’ve been receiving warm support from all over the world since the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. It wasn’t just people in Japan who were affected, people in many countries showed their warmth and support through various creative initiatives, making new connections and bonds across the world. We are proud to introduce “ARIGATO” project, founded in association with “TOKYO AWARD”, an art and design TV show in Japan and DESIGN ASSOCIATION NPO.
We are kindly asking professional creators, universities, and members of public to submit their art/design work under the theme of “LOVE”.The project will be displayed at a special exhibition during TOKYO DESIGNERS WEEK 2011 and will also be published in a special book. During this difficult time, we were overwhelmed with messages of support from around the world - we are very grateful to be able to say ARIGATO!Japanese words such as “MOTTAINAI”, and “SAYONARA” have entered the global vocabulary, we would like to add “ARIGATO” too!
Environmental Design Tent is a new exhibition space combining environment, design and art. Companies, embassies, charities and professional designers are welcome to promote their activities to visitors. We aim to help foster new connections between business and the public. This year, we will also hold the StudentExhibition Plus for undergraduates, working designers, and members of the public.
2011 will be the 9th year of the TDW "Container Exhibition". The constraints of a shipping container are a unique and challenging opportunity for creativity. Using sounds, light, darkness, smell and touch, designers can create immersive and interactive experiences.
This year we will introduce "Student Exhibition Plus", including eight creative disciplines: Architecture, interior design, product design, graphic design, fashion design, textile design, media art and fine art. Open to everyone, from undergraduates, professional designers, high school students and the general public.
The symbol of TDW; The TDW DOME comes in three different sizes this year. 90 feet (30 meter diameter), 44 feet and 36 feet. The domes will hold music events, forums and award ceremonies. The 90 feet dome can hold 400 seats or 1200 people standing. The 44 feet and 36 feet domes can be used as special exhibition spaces for companies and designers.
TDW ART had a big impact last year. For 2011, we will organize a contemporary art exhibition with top Japanese galleries, "Outsider" art exhibition curated by Katsuhiko Hibino, and "art × design" products section. These art exhibitions are produced exclusively for TDW visitors.
This is the series of exhibitions held within registered Stores, Galleries and Cafes in Tokyo surrounding the Aoyama area.
