Event Report(2): TOKYO DESIGNERS WEEK 2011

ART

The Art section featured exhibits curated by Mizuma Art Gallery and Tomio Koyama Gallery for the second consecutive year as well as booths exhibit section consisting of 6 galleries including G-tokyo making the entire Art section three times the size of last year. Mizuma Art Gallery held "Sky of Elpis" exhibition featuring works by Tomoko Koike, O Jun and Team Lab expressing the fear and hope felt after the 3.11 Great Eastern Japan Earthquake.

On the other hand, Tomio Koyama Gallery held "Local Realities: From Oneself" exhibition introducing artists who create their works with a very different approach from designers such as Yoshio Yoshimura, Tomoshi Ohno, and foreign talents Benjamin Butler and Dennis Hollingsworth whose work stood out.

From G-tokyo, 6 galleries participated including Taka Ishii Gallery, Gallery SIDE 2, Hiromi Yoshii, Kodama Gallery, Wako Works of Art, and Yamamoto Gendai Gallery.

3G artist Yoichiro Kawaguch has held an outdoor exhibition making the entire art section three times the size of last year.

MUSIC

We have also held live music performance in collaboration with charity "ap bank Fund for Japan" funded by music producer Takeshi Kobayashi at the TDW dome. Musicians such as Yo Hitoto, Salyu, Naoto Inti Raymi, lego big morl and Ryota Fujimaki has performed.

Also at the music performance by Naoto Inti Raymi and Kobayashi, they have held a workshop making songs by improvising around the theme "ARIGATO". Audience and the musicians made the songs together.

We have finished TOKYO DESIGNERS WEEK 2011 with a great success counting the largest number of visitors to date thanks to all the attendees, exhibitors and many other supporters who made it happen. We will continue to deploy a multi-faceted event promoting design, art, music and workshops next year and beyond.
