TOKYO DESIGNERS WEEK 2012 Event Outlines

TOKYO DESIGNERS WEEK which celebrates its 27th year this year, is an urban style design event centralized in Meiji Jingu Venue linked with surrounding shops, galleries and cafes in fashionable Aoyama. In 2012, event period was extended to 10 days showcasing wide range of creativity in the form of not only design, but fine art, music and workshops. Architect Sou Fujimoto was appointed as the creative director to design the exhibition site. The exhibition site consists of tents connected in the shape of a circle, where an open space is built in the middle. Containers and School Exhibition works are arranged in a radial manner in the open space creating a unified and lively feel of the event.

The exhibition outlines for companies and designers are uploaded now as well. This year's event offers various exhibition contents for companies and designers. Tent Exhibition is a showcase of "Kansei (Sensibility)" using creativity and technology. The Container Exhibition celebrates the 10th anniversary this year, the School Exhibition expanded to 15 divisions, Professional Exhibition becomes a collective solo exhibition, Young Designers Exhibition is a gateway for young designers and Workshop Exhibition was very popular at last year's event. SOU FUJIMOTO (Architect)
Born in 1971 in Hokkaido. After graduating from the faculty of architecture at the University of Tokyo, he founded Sousuke Fujimoto architect's office in 2000. Starting with 2005, he won AR award which is an international gateway for young architects for three consecutive years, casting him into spotlight. In 2008, he won JIA Japanese architecture grand-prix, and the best prize for the individual housing section of World Architectural Festival. In 2009, he won wallpaper* magazine's Design Awards 2009. And in 2010, he was awarded Spotlight: The Rice Design Alliance Prize. In 2011, he won best prize for the international design competition with his works "Beton Hala waterfront center" and the "Taiwan tower."
He has authored "Primitive Futuristic Architecture", "When the architecture is born" and "Sou Fujimoto Introductory Book" etc.
His architectural style which pursues the new forms and space between nature and artifacts is expected to evolve continually.
